SHIPPING STRIKE

POSITION JJN ALTERED DEEP SEA MEN RESPONSIBLE. (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) SYDNEY, October 22. The strike position is unaltered. Sailors continue to work the perishable cargo, but 110 other goods are touched on the coastal or inter-State vessels. Fruit merchants unloaded the Paloona's apples with their own workmen, the wharf labourers having declined the guarantee of an extra threepence offered for this vessel. The President of the Inter-State Steamship Owners Association declares that the strike was brought about by the deep sea men, who are desirous themselves of obtaining a further increase. One company has informed the merchants that no goods would be received for a fortnight.
