THE TAUPO COMPANY.
The attitude of the Government in regard to the Taupo Timber Company's (petition is being watched with some interest. In a recent address at Petone, Mr M. J. Reardon, ta Labour candidate, referred to 'the attempt .to obtain possession of some 200,000 acres of land in the North Island. The list of the .shareholders, he said, was most interesting, and the father of them all appeared to be Mr j, Dalziell, the business partner of the man who was Sir Joseph Ward'is right hand man. The company .were after the land not because they really needed it. They iliad plenty of other land. It .was the unearned increment of the land out of which they wiished to make their profit. Were the people ptf.New Zealand going to allow this (Cries of "No!"). Any member of the present Parliament who voted in favour of the proposal to extend the .powers of this company should !be driven out of puiblio life for oyer. (Applause.)
