RIFLE SHOOTING
NORTH WAIRARAHA ASSOCIATION.
FOURTH ANNUAL MEETING
The fourth annual competitions ir connection with the North Wairarapc Rifle Asociation was lield\at the Fairview range yesterday. A record number of entries was received, and there was. 'good all round shooting. Thf light was all that could be desired, and there was a left breeze which averaged 2 degrees at 200 yards, 7 degrees at 500 yards, 10 degrees at 600 j yards, and 12 degrees at 700 yards. I The marksmen were in good form, and some satisfactory scores were registered. The only ."possible" of the day was put on ibv G. Vonnell at 200 yards. The prize winners in this match were all close lip. The 500 yards match 'was won. <by D. M. Mcintosh, with a good 34. R. A. Wilton put up a creditable performance at 600 yards, scoring 34 off the rifle. The best shoot of'tire day was, perhaps, that of H.. O: .Tones, who recorded 33 at 700 yards. He started by missing'; the target altogether with his isighter. Tins, was found to be due to the> fact that/he overlooked adjusting the wind gauge. The third a.nd fifth shot resulted in inners, while the other five were all bulls. Mcintosh won the champion ship aggregate with 128, a record for the range.-, The previous best was 125, scored iby R. J. King. In the handicap aggregate Mr Walden was a good first with 100. Two riflemen, who (Scored 95), had not entered for the aggregate, and their names had to be struck out.' , Opaki again won the teams match with a total of 600. The' 'meeting excelled all previous gatherings under the Association's jurisdiction, both from the point of view of entries and the financial iresuit. Gredit is due to the secretary | (Mr D. M. Mcintosh) who was ably 1 assisted by Mr H. C. Jonesi, for the completeness of the arrangements, and the despatch in which the matches were got off. The results were as follow: GLADSTONE MATCH, seven shots at 200 yards, '.sixteen prizes ofl a total- value of £ll ■ first prize £2 and Mr jWv J,' Welch's trophy, second £1 10s, third £l, threejprizes of 15s, four of 10s, .six of 7s 6d.—Q.
