The fourth annual spring cattle fair, , conducted by ■Messrs Balgety and Co., Ltd., and the New Zealand Lean and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., on behalf of Mr R. A. McKenzie, was held at Palmerston North on Tuesday last. There was a large attendance of buy- j era, but competition was not so keen ) as in previous years, owing no doubt j to the dearth of cattle feed in the up country districts. There were 4160 head of various classes of cattle yarded, the whole being well-bred station lines of Shorthorn, Herefords and Polled Angus. As in the past, these were excellently drafted by Mr McKenzie, and the cattle looked well although they did not carry much eon- i dition, the result of the recent dry autumn and winter. Following are the,quotations of' principal lines:—SO yearling Hereford Cross heifers, £2 13s (J. Heckler, Mauriceville); 50, yearling Hereford heifers, £3 14s (H. ! V.
