NARROW ESCAPE
ATTEMPT TO, WRECK A TRAIN.
(Received October 19, 1.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 13. From Santa Barbara, California, new® has ibeen received that it has been discovered that the .train on which Mr Taft travelled on the Southern Pacific railway actually ■passed over tne dynamite laid on -the steel (bridge with the evident intention of destroying the structure and wrecking the train. A watchman appeared on the scene opportunely and prevented the miscreant loompleting his preparations for an, explosion.
