MASTERTON FISHPONDS

£ND the a. and p. association. Tile secretary of the Master toil Chamber of Commerce wrote to the Masterton A. and P. Association on Saturday, stating that the Chamber hoc! appointed a Cbmimittee to confer with the interested parties, with tthe object of retaining the fialwponds and hatdfoeries in Master ton. In this connection, it wia.s suggested that the Association might probably consider : a proposal for a removal of the ponds to Soliway. It was beflieved that the water there wa-s suitable for batching a. million trout ova, and that the necessary drainage could be obtained at little cost, and the surroundings were admirably adapted for the general purposes of acclimatisation. It was suggested that a committee migjh/fc be set up to confer with the Chamber on the subject. The President pointed out the circumstances in connection with the existing fishponds. • It' was .thought by many that the showgrounds would be a suitable place for .these ponds. He suggested a. small sub-committee to meet t-lie Chamber of Commerce and report. Mjr W. J. Welch thought the matter affected the whole of the General 'C'k mmittee, who should know what r was being done. It might be discovered that the grounds were unsuitable. On the other hand, it migjht be considered advisable to take up the project. > He moved tliqt the miatten' be referred to the Ground Committee. Mir 0. 0. Cooper seconded the resolution. Mr J. C. MbKillop pointed out tlnat it was only proposed to obtain a repoet. Mr D. McGregor considered that the Ground Committee might, be unwieldy. They would require! to consult tlie "Acclimatization Society on the subject. "Mir W. Perry was of opinion that Ji small! committee might do the work better in the meantime. He moved as an amendenit that a' sub-commit-tee consisting of the President and ; ijMeSo.rs W. J. Weleh and R. Gray ; tan .eet the Ohamiber of Commerce and I ibther delegates, and report to the ; «4jfaiound Ooinanittee. ■ ■ - J.; ' Mbodi«. seconded the I -Wiiendiment, which, after, some; dis- i Hussion, wa,s carried on tlie casting.
