CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS
IN THE MASTERTON DISTRICT. An accident of a painful cbarac"ter occurred tlo. a young mian named Peter Hansen, of Mauriceviile. He was. riding a mfotov bicycle at a fiairl> fast ip«ee round a sharp bend in the mad, when he came into collision with. a butcher's cart. He was j "thrown violently off his mlachine, and I sustained a broken leg just below the knee,. besides bruises on the fore- ! head. He was removed to the Masterton Hospital. A young man named Sedcole, employed by Mr J. 0. Ewington, of Masterton, sustained a severe injury to his hand on Saturday morning, through it being caugiit in some madiinery. The thumb was almost severed, and the fingers were severely lacerated. The sufferer was attended by Dr Archer Hosking, after lie was removed to the Hospital. An elderly lady sustained a severe fall in Miasterton a few tlayk back, ( and her injuries necessitated her removal to the Hospital. A lad named Smith had his foot badly lacerated witlli a tomahawk, with A\ilnah he wia>s, cutting ssorrie i siticke at Eis home in Masterton on Saturday morning. Mr A. D. Gillies, manager of the Masterton Abattoirs, met witli a nasty accident on Saturday. He was riding tip a- hill 011 his motor bicycle, when the machine skidded and .fell •on top of liim. His ankle was pinned beneaitb. the case of the cycle, and was severely bruised and wrenched.
