On the motion of the Premier, it was resolved that on and after Monday next tie House meet on Mondays for Government business. Sir Joseph \vard promised to give a statement of the business proposed to he undertaken on Friday. The Public Works Statement would, he said, be delivered on Monday afternoon. Sir Joseph Ward said there \va« no reason why the session should not close on Friday week, if members would co-operate. PACIFIC CABLE.

The Premier moved that .the House approve of the proposal of the Bacifi'; Cable Board to lay a cable between, Now ZeaJand and Australia direct. JJe explained that the scheme was for a caole between Auckland, •and Sydney,<*the heAdquarteiV being removed in each case to the grap.li stations, with "the result'that re-transmissions at each end would be avoided, undertaking, it was estimated, would cost £175,000.
