THE COMMISSION'S REPORT

CONSTERNATION AMONG TRADES. (Received Last Night, 9.35 o'clock) SYDNEY, October 11. Tl*e Interim report of the Shortage of L/ibour Commission has caused consternation >ainong the respective trades. Half the secretaries of the various unions declare that a large number of their members a?e out of work. The Hon. Mr McGowen declared that last year the present Government spent £40,000 on immigration, which was more than previous Governments had expended. This year they proposed to spend £60,000, and will institute a system of nomination for certain occupations where employment can be guaranteed without ..'the displacement of labour already engaged. General immigration is a matter for the Federal Government.
