A Christchurch telegram states that/ Mr R. B. Morris, who lias been' Acting Postmaster in i OhristchurcJi> since January, succeeds to the p<,s : tion, vice Mr S'. P. Stevens, retire J. Mr Morris has been in the postal .ervictffor the pasr thirty-five years, having joined in Timaru in 1875.
A private message, received last night, stated that Mr. John' Carr, formerly of Masterton, died suddenly in the Napier hospital. The immediate cause of death was heart disease. The deceased had been an inmate of the Hospital for about twelve months.
Mr. Jas. Devidson. for a number 'of years headmaster of the school at Parkvale, Wairarapa, has been appointed headmaster of the JSpuni school in succession to Mr. W. Williamson, who has retired.
' West Const papers record the death, at the age of eighty-two, of Mrs E. ' K BartonV who 'arrived in Hokitika- with her husband, the late Mr John Barton, some forty-five years ago. She leaves a. family of two daughters and four sons, one being Mr William -Barton, Stipendiary Magistrate at Gisborne, and another Mr C. A. Barton, Clerk of the Court at Wanganui. 4 Mr A. Abbott, who ha 3 been acting as buyer for Messrs W. Dimock and' Co. in the Wairarapa, has been transferred to Kaponga, Tarantrki, and he will be succeeded by Mr T. Caverhil!, of Lower Hutt. Mr Abbott leaves for his new home about the end of the present week. A London cable states that Mr Wickham has been appointed Board of Trade Commissioner in New Zealand.
