MASTERTON COUNTY
ENGINEER'S REPORT. The following report from the Engineer (Mr ft. MoLachlan) was read at the meeting of the Masterton County Council yesterday : OPAKI RIDING Manga.weka Road. —Contract No. 262: 12.7 chains of formation and -metalling, etc. —The contractor has been engaged for the past t>Vo weeks on the formation. A large 4ft by sft totara culvert on the southern end of the road has been lengthened 6ft and proper sloped batters to ■the intake and outlet made to receive the filling. ,• . Railway No. 256: 64 chains of formation and 19 chains of metalling.—Tlie above work has -been satisfactorily completed. Northern Approach.—Building two' bridges.—Contract, No. 237 : Little progress lias been made during the •past month; the contractor has been delayed for the want of timber. He will, however, with the timber in hand be able to complete one half to admit of traffic passing over and he will tihen proceed with the . dismantling of the ; old truss bridge. '• . Contract 238 Chains of formaetc.—Contractiors have done little work oni the* contract siiioe last , meeting. They: have, howeverj'dross- . edand maintained a ' considerably length of formation', and-Tyill now ceed witlh the filling in of the approaches to the half-built structures. ITE WHITI RIDING.— , -i. * Waingawa Bridge.—The. re-decking of the above bridge is being proceeded ' with. The truss span on the southern end!,. whicih was in a dilapidated ooti-' dition, has been strengthened. Weraiti Road. —Repairs; Jiave been . made to the branch leading up to t(he Wangaehu Valley which was badly rutted. - , RANGITUMAU RIDING. , Wangaehu - Road. —A " 30f\ span Abridge on mile 10 requires a: new top ' decking, and the main decking , sub-/ . stantially repaired. Some small sur;.face repairs "have been made on tlie I northern end of the road. WAINUIORU RIDING.— '~ : Homeavood-Kaiwlhata Road. The | aibove road has been opened lip, for. ; wheel traffic. :UPPER TAUERU RIDING— : Glendoriald-Wairere Road. Con- ' tract No. 250: 68 chains of formation ; and cul verting,—The corit^et./lias 1 been reported complete fey the contractor. I inspected the ground latft week and found some differences W the widths. It will be necessary forth© contractor to re-visit the ground and remedy the defecte. Two culverts, mentioned in my "last month's report,, hpve been put in position on the r Te Ore Ore-Bideford 'road;'. . ■ ALFREDTON RIDING.— • Repairs have been made io the Saunders and Pori roads.' Castle Hill Road.—l suppose rej placing the washed-out ' {culvert, arid embankment By a 6ft by sft culvert bridge. : ' ' ■ ■■•' Alfredton-Tinui Road, Contract No. 264 :46 chains of formation.
