•NTER-ISLaND MATCH. WIN FORi THE NORTH. By Telegraph — Fress Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The annual (Rugby fixture,' North Island v. South Island, was decided yesterday, in summer weather. The conditions of play were dead against football. A hot sun shone during thj afternoon, and the field was very hard. The Southerners were outclassed in the minor sense. They | lacked combination, an element which was discernable fitfully during th<- play in the ranks of the Northerners.. ' Both sides worked strenuously, and individualisation was impossible. The Northerners' rearguard appeared to have more scoring material than their opponents. Scott drew first. Mood for the iSouth team with a goal from a penalty. Grace altered the state of affairs by scoring a brilliant trv, which Rawiri ■converted, llvland" placed another try to the credit of the North, and shortly afterwards. Lynch scored the South's ■first trv half' way through the spell, Scott missing the goal. The spell ended without further score. Soon after tbe start of the second half, Ranji Wilson touched down for the North, ißawiri converting.—l 3 6 Lynch later .scored for the South,"and Wilson for the North, neither try being converted. Towards the end of the game Desmond added another try to the Northerners' score, the kiok at goal missing. The i game ended—North Island 19, South Island 9.
