UTILITY EGG CIRCLE

FORMED IN MASTERTON.

A large number of poultry breeders attended a .meeting'in the Dominion Hall, Masterton, last night, for the purpose of forming a-new egg circle. ■ On the motion of Mr J. Maxwell, by Mr A. Hendry, Mr H. J. O'Leary was. voted to the chajr.

Mr C. Miles was elected secretary pro tenu . The secretary read.-the notice calling the meeting, and. went on. to say bliat he was under the impression that the cost of marketing eggs at the present time was too great, and that it could' be considerably reduced. He proposed doing away with an agent, and consigning the eggs direct to some business store. The cost per dozen of marke + Jng eggs at present under the egg circla was. per dozen, and he thought this could be reduced by id or Jd. Mi- O'Leary also favoured joining the N.Z. Poultry Association, to wilnchj other egg circJes areaffiliated. Thus, if an agent.was required, one would .suffice for all the circles, reduciiig the cost to eacli body. He stated that Mr Rut'*?rford Mid visited Wellington and V'Soertained that there was a good market there.

Mr D. H. Rutherford explained that when in Wellington he had fat* i&fied himself that an agent .was noV necessary, and tliat several" stores were open to accept large quutiti?s of eggs at market rates. Mr Hesp moved that an egg circle be formed, and that the new l-od.\ affiliate with the N.Z. Poultry Association. /

Mi- Riutherford seconded the motion, which was carried iiraaniiiv :isly. It was decided to name th* circle the "Mastert'on Utility Eg* Circle." 'Nearly twenty persons signified, their intention of joining the -circl<s. •Messrs Rutherford, Miles, O'Leary, Hesp and Birchall were appointed a comimittee. . Mr Maxwell moved that the eggs ib? sent direct to Messrs Wardell Bros., of Wellington. The motion seconded by Mr Rutherford. Others present favoured the motics, objecting to paying an agent. The motion was carried. . The matter of arranging for ciates was left in the hands of the committee • A letter read from Messrs Watson anc offering to take delivery of the and despatch them to Wellington, and also do the necessary clerical work for Jd per dozen. Mr O'Leary pointed out that r-o mention, was made in the letter to tlu. collecting. • The matter was left in the hands of the committee, with power to act. - - . The ordinary member's fee was nxed at 7s 6d, and the honorary member's fee at 2s.
