OBITUARY.

(Received October 3, noon.) NEW YORK, October 2. Rear-Admiral Schely, of the United States navy, who was prominent in the Spanish-American war, dropped dead in his club in New York. Admiral iS/chely /sank Admiral Oerveras' fleet in Santiago Harbour in July, 1898. He was born in Maryland in 1593, and served through the Civil War. He also saw service in the Pacific, China, Japan, Corea, West Coast of Africa, and South America. In 1884 he commanded the expedition to the Arctic which rescued Lieut. Greely.
