y THE ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS LABOUR VERSUS LIBERAL

(Received Last Night, 9.2U o ciock.)

PERTH, October 3

X fifty Assembly electorates took place to-day. In ten other electorates the Labourites were returned unopposed. The elections for the remaining four seats have been deferred until the 11th inst.

Preferential voting was tried for the first time, which makes it diffi-< cult to forecast the result.

. The generall issue is Labour versus Liberal.

Tlie ehief planks of the Labour platform are stoppage of land alienation, ultimate land nationalisation, the abolition of a State Governor and Legislative Assembly, land tax without any exemptions, and a stoppage of borrowing (except for public works which pay interest and sinking fund charges.) The Ministerial programme includes a freehold land system, the substitution of income for land tax, borrowing for the development of works, and a vigorous immigration policy.
