AUCKLAND, Last Night
The; officers of the coastal steamers recently filed an application for an award under the Arbitration Act. It was thought that the application would come ibefore the Court at -this sitting in. Auckland, but in view of ithe action taken .by the officer® in the South it is probable that the application for an award wiibl be withThey had asked for an inr crea© in, salaries, and an eight hours day with overtime at 2& 6d per hour.

The Seamen's Union at Auckland passed a resoMtion in favour of breaking away from the Arbitration Act, but only a small proportion of the members wei-e present.
