MR MASSEY AND THE MINISTRY
An interesting discussion took place in (the Bouse of Representatives yesterday 'alfiternoon on ftihe question of whether Mr Miaissey was, or was not invited- somie years ago to join (the Ministry with .a view of fighting itiheLabour Party. The Prime Min.iis.ter denied that any saich invitaio&n was issued. He- admitted, however, that certain negotiations hod been opened, presumably !by members on. his own side of the- House, and that he had discussed the matter. Mr Massey, foi* ibis part, maintains that overtures' were made to (him, though not by members of the Ministry.' The position is ian exceedingly interesting one. If overtures wei*e made to the Leader of the Opposition, by whose authority were they made? If the Prime Minister met two gentlemen in ithe lobby of the House, by whom was ithe appointment made, and for what purpose was it made? The public has both sides of the question 'before it, and .may form .a, pretty accurate opinion of what transpired.
