MOUNT LYELL STRIKE.

(Received Sept. 26, 10.30 a.m.)

HOBART, September 26. The Mt. Lyell strike has paralysed trade in the district. The Company claims that the question at issue is one of discipline and the. eight-hour principle is not involved. It states that the men's demands mean an increase of one hundred to one hundred and fifty thousand pound's per annum, which is considerably .n excess of the profits earned by the mines. Both sides are determined. The Company declined the Premier's offer to arbitrate, considering it futile and declaring' fcha t it oa 'mot accept arbitration on the question of a discharged employee.
