ROAD FORMATION

BOROUGH COUNCIL'S SCHEMES.

At last night's meeting of the Masiterton Borough Council, • the Porougjh Eingineer reported as fol'Towss in regard, to temporary repairs to the part of Pbwnall Street from Gornwtall Street to Michael Dixon Street:— This portion of the street is practically in its. natural state, and is out up in various tracks. Temporary repairs could be carried out at a cost of about £l2 to make the road passable for summer, buti it would be no good for winter traffic, 'and thie would not include putting any road material on it. I have inspected and taken levels of the work required to be done at'; the junction of Villa and PownaH streets and recommend as follows: That the creek flowing on the boundary of Mr Field's 'and the Council's gasworks property be divided' into a 2ft 6in pipe across the Council's own pioperty into the Makora Creek,, a dastance of 60 yards at a cost of about' £65, and the work of filling in the old line of creek at the junction; of Powntili arid Villa Streets be done as tame 4vill permit by the depositing of all street sweepings and (shippings '-Hv/fcHe vicinity. If, the work had to be done'at once the estimated cost of filling in would be about £SO extra, making the cost of'the -whole work about £lls. The Council decided to have the work on Pownall Street ibetween Cornwall Street and Michael Dixon street carried out.

Or Hoar moved that the work at the junction of Pownall and Villa Streets also be gone on with. Ifo added ithat the. matter had been under consideration for about four yearsi, arid that it was about time something was done; Cr O'Leary said lie objected, to so much money being spent in one portion of the town, when so much work was required in the lower end of the town. ' Cr Hoar said "that work ; on the fcotpathls in Dixon Street and Worksop Road/had already been authorised. ..'.;. '■• ■' ■ -- • ' Cr Elliott moved as an amendment that, the matter be held over until next meeting, to allow -...the Councillors tjo inspect the. site. Or se'condefd"; the; amendment,. wh ; qh was carried.
