WILD TRADING IN STEEL.
THE RECENT PROSECUTION
(Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.)
NEW YORK, September 23,
Wild trading in United States steel threw Wall Street into a state of ferment, and liquidation took place on a large scale. Five points were lost in the first hour, but a slight recovery was afterwards shown. v The total sales were the largest that have ibeen effected since 1902. The liquidation was due to the belief that the .Steel Corporation would be forced to dissolve as a result of the recent suit by the Department of Justice.
