Mr Donald Donald, of Masterton, intends paying an extended visit to the Old Country in the course of a few months. The many friends of Mr Ernest McEwen, of Masterton, will regret to hear that he is lying at present in a precarious condition at the Masterton Hospital. Now that the Hon. T. Y. Duncan (has definitely decided to stand again for Oamaru, it is practically certain that Mr R. Milligan will retire so as to avoid a split in the Liberal vote. A deputation is to wait upon Sir John Findlay when in Auckland on Monday next, to ask him to contest the Parnell seat at the coming election. The mamy friends of Mrs W. Fisher, of Carterton, will regret to •hear that she is somewhat seriously ill. Mr J. Jackson has removed from Martinborough to the farm at Dyerville, bought by him from Mr W. ,C. Arrow.

Captain Skey, of the Carterton Territorials, has been promoted to the rank of Major. Mr Hadfield, of Carterton, hais been chosen aa caretaker to the Waimnte Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club, and will also be engaged in laying down new croquet lawns, and extending the grounds.

| Mi'-s Milne who has been teacher at the Tablelands school 1 for the .past three years, has .been transferred to Koro Koro, near Petone, .and last week the settlers at Tablelands held a farewell gathering l , at which they presented 'Miss Milne with a handsome travelling rug.' Mr W. Clement Cargill will be a visitor to Miasterton to-day. , Mr E. Cox, who has lately transferred from the Pahiatua Post Office to Eketahuna, has been promoted to Wellington. Mr F. H. Perrin., who for two aud <a-half years has been on the Invercargill staff of the New Zealand Insurance Company, has received notice of his transfer to the company's office at Singapore. ' 1 Mr Archibald C. Pearce died at his residence at Kelburne, Wellington, yesterday, after a .• hort illness. . He had suffered for years from Bright's disease of the kidneys. '
