DAMAGE TO_A CRUISER NARROWLY ESCAPES SINKING,

(Received Last Nigfat, 9.45 o'clock.)

LONDON, September 22.'

The damage sustained by the cruiser Hawk, in the collision with the White Star Liner Olympic, near Cowes, was extensive.

Only prompt measures prevented the cruiser from sinking. The vessel will require a new bow for a distance of 30ft.

The repairs will take several months to effect.
