TE WHARAU.
Splendid rains fell here cueing the week, and are greatly appreviated by farmers, who Mere complaining of the dryness which prevailed for 'the past week or two. Many farmers an this district con-sid-er that the percentage of llambs will this year be small compared with the past few years. A petition is at present 'being circulated in this district, land has been largely signed, asking Mr M. G. McGregor, of Hikurangi, to become a candidate for a seat on the South Wairarapa County Council. Am there is a probability of four candidates standing for this division of the County, an interesting election should result. The County roadmen are at present planting a large num'ber of willows at Jackson's. Creek, which at is considered will have the effect of stopping the slip which has caused so imuch inconvenience at that place. The Te Wharau Kifte Club hold a shoot on Saturday 'last, when a good number ©if riflemen were present. Gtoodi ishooting was not the order of the day on account of a very str'ong wind blowing. The isfhoot will be continued nexft 'Saturday, w-hten several rtrophiies and prizes will he competed'for.
