CARTERTON.
Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., who have (won the local Friendly Societies' card tournament, have accepted: thte challenge of the Masterton Hdberniain Lodge to a card tourney, and has resolved to suggest that tihe game be played at Carterton on Monday evening nest. The annual meeting of the Carterton Cricket Club is to be held on Friday evening next. IMb* J. B. Mcjßwan, professional igolf coach, is to visit Carterton next week, under the auspices of the local Club.
Am interesting debate took * pOiace on Monday evening, beibween the Fea.thiers.ton and Carterton -Debating Societies, on Monarchy v. Republicanism. The Carterton Society, who supported the latter, were declared the winners hy the narrow, margin of four points. Mr" J. T. M. Hornsby acted as judge.
