AN EXTRAORDINARY SCENE

UNPRECEDENTED UPROAR.

SYDNEY, September 19

An extraordinary scene of disorder (occurred in the Assembly, when Mir Storey called the Premier's attention to Speaker Willis' addressing la meeting of constituents, when he Called the memb'es's of the Opposition a band of ruffiians l . Mr Storey asked the Premier to ascertain if (the statement was made, and if so tx> protect the honour of the memibers. • The Speaker ruled) the question out of order on the ground that he could not take cognisance of what appeared in the Press. ■ The Oppositionists persisted,, but I both the Speaker and the Premier I ideciinefd to answer. i Mr Cohen rose and repeated the query. The Speaker repeatedly cau(tioned him, and eventually ordered (the Se,rgeant-at-Arms to remove Mir lOohen. i The Oppositionists sxirrounded Mr (Cohen, and refused to allow him to (retire, resisting the Sergeant, .and ithe messenger who came to his assistance. An. unprecedented uproar followed. Several Ministers and the Speaker vacated their chairs, " and deft the Chamber*' • > •'< Oppositionists mounted the dias, and flung the Speaker's papers after him.
