The Manawiatu Dailj Times of yesterday had the following:— "The rumours in connection' with e military headquarters and training camps which were very prevalent a little while back have been revived. M&sterton is making a very hard fight to secure th& WfeflJington district headquarters, now at Palmerston, and the camps, and to this end the use- of the Masterton Showgrounds have.been, offered to the Department at a nominal rental. It was understood that the difficulty with regard to the Palmerston Showground's that the reduction of the rente! asked from £4OO to £2OO hadeffected a settlement, bait there is no official intiimation to this effect, and we are informed that it is not the case. lit is higWy desirable that every facility should be given for. the camps here."
