At a brfllfant gathering in the Town Ball, Lord Deranian to-night foranaMy opened the Medical Congfress. 'Dr PocMey, in Ms Presidential address, saidi that more univer-saSy and rapidly than at any time in its history, medicine was passing from traditional and empiric to becoming more rational and scientific. The discoveries' made and Toreslhadowed threatened not only to revolutionise medicine, but, within the limits inexorable Nature ordains, to profoundly alter the inter-racial relationshipa and influence of man's distribution on the face of the globe', mainly through the knowledge of the causes and processes' of mncrohic disease and preventing, modifying, and controlling the action of bacterial protozal organisms'. These results, when brought about, exhaustively revealed the development of the various branches of medical science.
