VIENNA, September 18. A Socialist demonstration was held as a protest against dear food. Fifty thousand people marched to Rath-ans, where violent speeches were delivered demanding the importation of foreign meat and the reduction of the cost of living. Tlie demonstration culminated in rioting. InniumeraKs windows were smashed', including those in the law courts. Tramiciars were wrecked, and the police and soldiery were stoned. Barricades' were erected, and the furniture of re taurants and school? was piled in the streets and set on fire. The Dragoons charged, and dispersed the crowd. Towards evening the rioting was renewed in the workmen's quarters of the Ottakring district. The troops fired, killing three and wiounding four severely and eighty slightly". One hundred and seventy were arrested.
