ON MIRACLES.
The "Modern. Qhluirehniian" for Augoeit'--contains an. article by tie IRey. H. D. A. Mlajor (formerly of HSfow 'Zealand),, on. "The Oase of the B)ev. J. M. Thompson," .fron* whom itibe Bishop of Winchester has withdrawal lids license. It says:— "Much as we mlay deplore the form which the agcibatdon seemi& to be taking, yet we dto not depllore - the agitation itself.. In any oase agitation is better than 'Ktegnaitioni, especially if agitation be, followed by' iriyestigation.. The subject of the miraou- ! ilous-r-partdcularly in its- relation /to . the doctrine of the Incarnation—- | needs to be seriously investigated iby 'Churchmen. When this has been dlone, we -dare to think that the Rev. J. M. 'Thkxmipson, no less than the late ATChhisthop Temple and fch<e> piresenlt Bairmiingham, will come to jib© regarded by the generality' of , eduoa&ed cbnrchnien as entitled to I a legitimate place as a teacher of j the Chlris'tiiani faith withn the- bord- ! era of the National Church.
In order to avoid "hasty and. popular episcopal and synodical decisions," the article urges "our authoritieJ to appoint a Commission to consider the wthlole subject of the relation of the miraculous to the 'Faith, especially"'in the form in which, the question is raised in Mr Thlom|p9on.'s book," and suggests the names of Professors /Lock and Sjandiay, of Oxford, Professors Stanton andl Swete, of Cambridge, and the Deansi of St. Paul's and of Wells.— 'The London Times. .
