SHEARING IN ARGENTINE.
It is suggested by an Australian contemporary that there is room.' in Argentine fon. au adtive branch of 'the Australian Shearers' Union. There is certainly very little of the "20s per 100" about the Argentine shearing rate. According to a recent writer," whose trotter owns an estancia in the Republic, the shearting on the estancia wtas done by a gang of desperate-looking ruffians wililo had been collected for the purpose by a pea'son resembling "a oneeyed murderer." Each sheep' had'its legs tied together, before it was terougliit to the shearer, who for every sheep /shorn received a metal token, subsequently cashed for a penny and one-twentieth, or at the rate of twenty for Is 9d. Thisi give© the ' shearer 8s 9d per 100. If, however, the men's pay is very low', they do little enough for it, for the best diay's work of thirty-five on j'.i.l.s station was about 1150.
