It Is . worthy ,of seiroaTk. that .many city men took forward to the time \yJben they "wiM be able .to retire from business land start farming. It sounds' a,si though tihe latter were a mere pastime, landl no dioubt many people, before entering upon it, regard farming in tthat light. Some retired! (business men have started farming and) found it a success. Many others ha.ve embarked tlheir ■i savings in 'the venture, and the result® have proved- disastrous. It is' not altogether ithe financial results th'at imen Q'ook for w(ho start farming after a long comimierical career. Thtey would be quite content if thiey secured a ibare 5 or 6 per cent, on tihteir capitai. Wihlait they seek is freedom and' release from the cares * and strife of commercial life. What reconciles the farmer to hiis limited financial' gains are just what makes the fiarni) hand put up with the drawbacks of country life ; the extras. He .sees to it /that he ihi&s a good house and garden. He does not have to pay out money for milk, biuittef, eggs, and poultry, hlas his gun handy if he wants' to viairy hiis. larder. After his day's work, on retjaring to bed he does not lie tossing laud .troubling, l over the business, worries of the day. ' He is -generality ready for hi® sleep, aud enjoys whait he 'hias earned. He /has a horse l - and' trap as. a matter of course, ud necessarily possesses' a hack, cm which, he rides out to attend the stock sales amdl visit the market town. He Jives what may be, if he Likes, a thorough!v, satisfying life in the .country, with a sense of independence and freedhm from care. Tihe Agricultural life hias mlany compensations for the lose of . town conveniences, land the retired business .mian who turns to farming finds mlany advantages .besides, monetary gains', and inuany take on . a new /lease of 'life.
