PLUMBERS' REGISTRATION BILL
OPPOSED BY LOCAL BODIES. The Town Clerk read a telegram at lastnight's- meeting of "tihe Mas-ter-Urn : Borough Council from the Wellington Clerk, stating that WeLlinglton. local' bodSes . wiere taking steps* to oppose the Hiumlbersv Regisitaration Bill now before Parliament, and asking the Masterton Council to assist in the opposition. The Mayor stated that he had instructed the Town Clerk to inform the writer that the Council had not perused the Act, but would' consider tthe matter 'w(hen an opportunity afforded. He added that it appeared that the Government were going to take over the management of municipal sanitation. Or EiwSngton proposed that the Ivuayor and Temple and Prentice be apjpointed a committee to deal with the matter. Or Hoar said that the Bill was very objectionable as far as local bodies were concerned. lit appeared tihlat the Government was taking power out of the local bodies' hands, in every way possible. Or Boar added tihlait he thought the Bill ought to be opposed. Or Temple said that it looked as if the Government were trying to' take the wKble of the local bodies and control them themselves. The motion of Cr Ewington was carried.
