BAR EMPLOYEES. A NATIONAL UNION FORMED. (Received Last Night, 11.40 o'clock.) LONDON, September 11. A meeting of barmen and barmaids in Hyde Park formed a National Union. The objects of the Union are to get higher wages, and the abolition of the system of pay with living included. The speakers asserted that many employees were working 100 hours weekly. RAILWAY SMASH. SEVEN PERSONS INJURED. (Received Last Night, 11.40 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 11. " On the van of a train shunting at Scarsdale, the brakes refused to act, and the van dashed down an incline and crashed into some stationary trucks. Seven persons were injured, two seriously. The damage to the rolling stock was slight. RADIUM DEPOSITS. STATEMENT BY DR. MAWSON. •(Received Last Night, 11.40 o'clock.) SYDNEY, September 11. Dr. Mawson declares that the radium ore deposits in South Australia are very valuable. Besides the uranium ores, there are, he says, large bodies of corundum. EXTRAORDINARY PROSPERITY. He is unable to supply the demand for labour. GUNPOWDER EXPLOSION. TWELVE MEN KILLED. (Received Last Night, 9.50 o'clock.) TANGIER, Sept. 11. While the gunpowder from Fort Rabat was being thrown into the sea, a cartload exploded. A French officer and two artillerymen, together with nine Moorish soldiers, were killed. ETNA IN ERUPTION. " FREQUENT EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS." (Received Last. Night, 9.50 o'clock.) ROME, September 11. Frequent earthquake shocks have been experienced, and a dense smoke is issuing from Mount Etna. A rain of sinders is foiling in Catania. Two craters have been opened. AVIATOR KILLED. MACHINE OVERTURNS. (Received Last Night, 11.40 o'clock.) BERLIN, September 11. Eyring. while aeronlaning at Stuttgart, collided with Marnpost. The former continued his fight, not knowing that the wing of his machine was damaged, and his aeroplane overturned. The aviator was killed.'
THE SHEFFIELD CHOIR. AND MARATHON FESTIVAL. (Received Last Night, 9.50 o'clock.) ' CAPETOWN, Sept. 11. The Sheffield Choir has sailed for London. The Marathon Festival terminated by the singing of the "Messiah;" and a grand parade in which 12,000 took part. The Archbishop of Capetown ' conducted an open-air thanksgiving service. RUSSIAN DEFENCES. LAUNCHING A BATTLESHIP. A HUGE FLOATING DOCK. (Received Last Night, 9.50 o'clock.) ST. PETERSBURG, Sept. 11. The C»ar witnessed the launching of the battleship Petropanlovsk. The Admiralty contemplates the construction of a 40,000-* ton floating dock for the Bladfe Sea. It will be built in England.
