IS IT PAWELKA?
POLICE PROCEED TO MOKATJ. A MAN RESEMBLING THE FUGITIVE. By Telegraph — Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Early on Tuesday morning a party of four police arrived at Te Kuiti, and, accompanied by Constable Matthew, left immediately for the backblocfoi, in the direction of Mokau. A further party of police arrived yesterday afternoon by the express from Auckland, and also left at once in that direction. Many rumours are current in regard to the mission of the police.' The general opinion is ■ that the search is for Pawelka. It is held that it is possible that he hit out across the Manawatu country in the direction of Mokau, with the hope of getting away on a timber scow or one of the colliers engaged in the coal trade. It is stated that Pawelka had been seen a few days ago crossing Mount Messenger, in the direction of Mokau, and this is supposed to be the information the police are working on. Advice from Awakino states that the police interviewed a man who bore a great likeness to Pawelka. It is understood he was the man seen crossing Mount Messenger.
