The "New Zealand Times." which is the official ■organ of the Ward Administration, ilnas token Mr Fowlds' utterances very munch to heart. Referring to> 'Ms reference® (to the time, when "a truly democratic party arises in the country, pJedged to principles' am which it belie ras," the "Times" sayis:— '"Thiiisi is a rathea- gratuitous (reflection.' (to come' from onle wfbo on the public platform and from ibis place am Parliament had so often and so capably d,cffended the party's; programme aaid .adrn'i'nidtra.tion. The Literal' party in the House of Repiresieaitatiiveis owed something to Mr Fowiklis, 'but Mir Fcwldls. also owed something to the rank and file of those w.ho sat airoumd Qiian, and they might reasonably have 'been spared a. back-handed .slap ini the face like this."
