In the Supreme Court a middle-aged labourer nattred CTouseh,* a foreigner, but a long resident here, pleaded not; guilty to a charge of stealing a bicycle. Other charges are to be heard against him of breaking and entering, and stealing clothing. The bicycle stolen from the owner in Timaru was in accused's possession, at Oainaru, next day, also a swag containing some of the stolen clothes. The defence was that accused bought both bicycle and swag from some man on the road. The jury disagreed, and were discharged.

SESSIONS AT NAPIER. By Telegraph — Press Association. i _____ NAPIER, Last Night.; At the Supreme Court to-day, William McCarthy, on a charge of theft of, a silver watch, was found guilty. Sentence was deferred till to-morrow. Frederick Ewart, for cruelly ill-treat-ing a horse by failing to provide it with proper food and water and shelter, was found guilty. The Chief Justice said he would not impose a term of imprisonment, but would take until to-morrow to consider what fine ; he would impose.
