Mr Ered Olsen, a resident of Kai Iwi for thirty years, died on Saturday. Mr H. Futoher, who recently met with a painful accident at Pahiatua, is still an inmate of the hospital. The death is announced of Mrs Elizabeth Bryant, wife of Mr R. N. Bryant, one of the oldest and best known settlers in the Tirite<a district. The friends in Masterton of Mr N. D. Bunting will be pleased to hear that. he is making good progress to - wards recovery from a somewhat severe illness," TJia many friends of Mr W. Moore, of Carterton, will be pleased to hear that he is making satisfactory progress towards recovery at the South Wairarapa. Hospital. The Southland Times that the Opposition party at Riverton has decided to support Mr Jas. King, of Clifden, as a candidate for the Wallace electorate in the Opposition interest at the forthcoming election. Mr S. R. Atkinson states that, for piiivate reasons, he will be unable to stand for any constituency at the general election. It wias announced some time back that Mr Atkinson had definitely decided to contest the Wellington East seat. Ma- F. R. Flatman has, the Temuka Leader is informed on very good authority, been offered and accepted a seat in the Legislative Council, and that is the reason wlhy he is not standing for election this year. The Dannevirke Advocate records the death of Mrs Duley, the mother of Messrs J. A. and J. W. Duley, of Dannevirke. The deceased, who had survived her husband for many years, had reached the great aga of 89 years. A Sydney oable states that Captain Lindeman, Government Shipping Master, dropped dead in the Public Works Department building, while arranging matters in connection with bis retirement, which had just been announced. The cause of death was heart trouble. Dr J. M. Bell, late director of the Geological Survey for the Department of Mines of New Zealand, and Mr C. Fraser, his assistant, in that capacity, who left New Zealand some months ago, have established themselves in practice in London, as mining geologists. . A large number of residents of Pahiatua followed N the remains of the late Mrs Hodgins to the Pahiatua railway station. The Pahiatua County Council, of whom Mr Thos. Hodgins, junr., is a member, was represented, and some of the oldest settlers in the district attended.
