"LIKE CHILDREN."
"They were only like children, and did not understand." This is how Mr J. T. M. HorniSiby, Liberal candidate for the Waararapa, described the Native race to the people of the Lower Taueru. It is a poor ooimipldmienrfc to pay aai initeliligent people, iwihio have for years past had the benefitts of education and cdivilisatLon.. If they do not understand, why does Mir ttmmsby allow them to return representatives to Parliament ? To ta/uK of the Natives- of bo-day iseJiling their kinds- for motor-catrs is so mmah "piffle." Why, it was-only the o>t3ueir day that a meeting of assembled Native owners was held in- Masiteirton, and an offer of the Govemm'ent to purchase an area of land in Somt-h Waiir&irapa was refused, because it was mot bag enough. Does this look ass though the Natives aire like ohildneim, and do not understand ?
