Archdeacon Fancourt will be on a visit to Masterton to-day.
At the annual meting of Holy Trinity Church, Woodville, on Thursday night (states a Press Association telegram), Mr Herbert Burnett, who has, been vicar's churchwarden continuously (for twenty-five'years, was presented by the parishioners with a handsome solid silver tea service and tray, suitably engraved.
The funeral of the late Mis Minnie Reardon took place yesterday, when a large number of relatives and friends ■lie deceased joined in the cortege.' The® pall-bearers were Messrs H.,- P. W., and R. Reiardon, and L. H. Lewis. . A most impressive, burial service was conducted by the Rev. Father Harnett at" the graveside. Mr Frank Hockly will again be a candidate for the Rangitikei seat in the Opposition interest. The death took place ta the Balmerston Hospital on Monday of Mr Isaac Kent. Deceased, who was!"seventy years of age, was an old Masri war veteran, having seen service on the East Coast during the fixlies. He was also a member of the Hawke's Bay Military Settlers, under Major Fras- ; er. He leaves a widow and family to mourn their loss. The Outlook states that the Rev. Professor Hewitson leaves Dunedin next month for a trip to Great Brittain. He expects to be away six months, and will devote the time to a careful study of the modes and methods adopted in the colleges of the Old Land. Dr, J. Q-. A. Henry, in writing to Mr . H. N. Holipes, .states that, lie has just concluded his final misison in Australasia.. It Was held at Toowpomba, in Queeiislarid. Dr Henry ' 'eft Sydney by the Makura, en route, to America. Mr A. F. Wilson, who has-been conrieoted with the qtaff of the Agricultural Department at Carterton for the past eleven years, has been .transferred to Stratford, for which part he left yesterday. His many friejlds will be pleased to learn that the new position means promotion. -Rev. J. S. Serpell is at present on a visit to Wellington in connection with Home Mission deputation work in the Wellington circuit. i Sir William Steward has definitely decided not to contest the Waitaki seat at the coming election. He intends residing near Wellington. Mr Oscar Oxley, son of Mr George Oxley, of Pahiatua, intends taking up sheep farming in-the Puketois.. Mr Henry Aulin has been appointed ranger, inspector of nuisances, etc., for the Pahiatuia Borough. The death is recorded of Mrs Mayamt 1 Hodgins, mother of Mr R. J. Hodgins, of Masterton, and Mr T. Hodgins, of Tane. The deceased lady, who had reiached'the ripe age of eighty years, arrived at Wellington in the very early days. She bad been ailing for several years, and suffered a paralytic stroke last week, from which Hie never regained consciousness. Tho remains of the deceased were taken to Wellington yesterday for interment in the Earori cemetery.
