DAMAGE DONE BY RIOTERS.
WRONG ON BOTH SIDES
(Received Last Night, 9.35 o'ciocs.)
SYDNEY, August 30
The presence of a large body of police at Lithgow had a quietening effect.
The Unionists declare, however, that it is merely a lull before the storm. They were not content to see nonUnionists displacing them. During tho riot, considerable damago was done. Mr Hoskins' valuable motor car was saturated with petrol and burnt. A locomotive was stripped, and dozens of windows were smashed. The damage and loss is variously estimated to £IO,OOO. The Hon. Mr Beeby declared that the men participating in the riot should be punished, but the blame was not all on tho one side. Mr Hoskins had declined his suggestion to re-in-state the men ati the old terms pending arbitration.
