Sir William Hall-Jones, in an interview, recommended the adoption of New Zealand's system of compulsory arbitration. Mr Will Crooks' Strike Bill compels employers and workers to give thirty days notice of a change affecting working conditions and wages, and fixes penalties for lock-outs, strikes, or inciting thereto prior to the investigation of a dispute by a Board, the latter consisting of three members appointed by ffche Board of Trade on. application by the parties to the dispute.

Gunderloch, a farmer of Kendel Hisse, who squandered his patrimony and deserted his wife and family, returned from London .on Friday, and went to his father-in-law's house; - He shot his father-in-law, his mothe r-in-la\v, brother-in-law, and sister-dn-kw,'and finally shot, his wife as she was seeking to-escape from a window. All the victims are dead. Gunderloch committed suicide.

Messrs Secretan and Company are owners or the steamers detained at Barrow and Gravesend. A third steamer named the Salop, belonging to the same company, sailed on July 30th for Buenos Ayres. The nature of the cargo is unknown. Several newspapers make ia- suggestion connecting the embargoed steamers with Royalist projects in Portugal.

NEW YORK,'August: 27. Anexplosion off -a moving picture film occurred in the Morgan Giant Opera House at Cannon&burg. The alarm of fire started a panic, and women and children were jammed in the stairway, many .being knocked down, trampled to death, or smothered. The death roll totals twenty-five, besides many injured. Numbers of gallant rescues were effected.
