ELECTRIC AND DISORDERLY.

The. proceedings in the Assembly tot-dlay were electric and disorderly from' tthe jump.
The mover and seconder of the "nomination of Mr Wiilliss to the Speakership, were constantly interrupted by sarcastic, Opposition remarks. iM/r G. Wade, Leader of the Opposition, made a long speech, in which he hotly and bitterly attacked the Government and Mr Willies amid' a constant exchange of heated re(mlarkis. At one point, the intervention of others alone .prevented two memlberß from exchanging blows*. Mr Wlade declared that the ■course 'fallowed by the Government involved the degradation and humiliaition. of a Parliamentary Government such as hlad never before been.- seen. The Government was so hungry for office- that it would do anything rather than relinquish its grip. It I had become a great betrayer of hisI tory, and had dangled * the bait of [ prestige and emolument before the I members. He reproached Mr Williss for deserting the Liberals and aoo- , epfcing the Speakership. He declared that he was absolutely unworthy to ii*i the chair, having made hdmsellf a party to a- disgraceful contract, the object of which was to keep the Ministry in power after they had ceased to enjoy the confidence of the House and country.

' In the Assembly, Mr Holmian, who ■was fireqiiently interrupted, made a spirited! reply to Mr Wade. He defended! the Government and Mr Wilkes. 'lf the Labour Rarity had been able to. appeal to the two- farmers', electorates at a moment of unpopularity and intense' excitement, and the Liberals failed, (to gain these seats, the . Labour, Pjarty could face a, general electa an ytiih composure.. The House would ilje .peranitlted! to clear up the business ;whiqh }yas clearly necessary before lan appeal •was' miade to the country.He was determined .to get the Electoral ReJorm and the Re«liistribution i of Seats Bills l through as soon as the necessary business, is put. through by the - House. He pledged his word that no effort would be made ,to pass legislation while his party had not a majority. He expected a'general election about Chrisitmas.
DEBATE GOING STRONG.

The Clerk, who is filling the place of the Speaker, without his powers, is helpless vo check the member&. The Opposition are determined to; resist Mr Willies' appointment to the death, but are willing to compromise if someone else is nominated.
