AN AUCKLAND TRAGEDY
"FISHERMAN BHOT IN THE HEAD A WOMAN ARRESTED. AUCKLAND, Last Night. A fisherman named Thomas Madi-. Tgan was shot in the head ooi Saturday night, and is now in the Hospital in a serious condition. Subsequently the ipolice arrested Annie 'McConnell, a middle-aged' woman., on a charge of attempting to murder Madigan, with whom she hod been living for (three or four years. 2 Madigan, was ishot through the right ear, and the (bullet is lodged' <either in the 'base of the skull or in /the muscles of his neck. •When, the constables went to arrest the woman, they found Madi;gan's father and (mother, and McConnell. All are alleged to have been under the influence oif liquor. 'Mrs Madigan commenced to rave about MoCoimell shooting her son. McConnell said Madigan caught (bold of iher, and accused her of familiarity with other men. He struck "her twice on the head with ihis land then wen,t into the bedroom. She followed him, picked up a revolver off the table, and fired. She told the police she did not know what she ired at. iMadigan is single, and 47 years of age.
