MR HOGG'S POSITION.

In his last public address in Masterton, Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., made it abundantly clear that in his opinion the present Government has forfeited all 'claim's :to /the confidence of the country. Having made that declaration, there is- cinly one honourable course open to Mr Hogg, and that is to adopt every legitimate means to relegate the Government to political obscurity. It .may be that he prefers the Government to the Opposition.. That .point does not enter into the. discussion. The Opposition is not upon its trial—the Government is. If the Government cannot claim the confidence of the country, Mr Hogg stultifies and humiliates himself every time he votes to keep it in power.
