MASTERTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Council of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon, there being present: Messrs A. Henderson (Vice-President), J. Caselberg> C. E. Danicll, W. E. Chamberlain, G. C. Summerell, and C. Graham. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs F. W. Carey, R. Brown, D. Donald, V. Donald, J. B. Keith and G. W. Selkr. The Treasurer reported a credit balance*at date of £ll 10s Id. A letter was read from the Eketahuna Chamber, stating that it wo aid be pleased to co-operate with the Masterton Chamber in reference to the petition for the deviation of the Rimutaka railway.—The Secretary said the. receipt of the letter had been acknowledged. The Napier Chamber asked that a delegate be appointed to a deputation to wait upon the Government during the session of Parliament in support of a substantial grant in aid of the Napier-Gisborne railway. The Gisborne Chamber forwarded a resolution in favour of legislation for the registration of land agents, and asking for the support of this Chamber. The Rotorua forwarded a circular letter, emphatically protesting against the proposal to grant private railway rights to the Taupo Timber Company. Messrs Walter Fischer and Co., of London, wrote, asking'for particulars concerning suitable firms as agents. The Upper Hutt Town Clerk (Mr McCurdy) tasked for copies of the petition re Rimutaka. railway deviation.—rThe Secretary reported that they had been forwarded. A circular letter was read from the British and Imperial Chamber of Commerce, stating that a conference of Chambers would bo held in Lon4oi.
