AN ENJOYABLE SOCIAL.
.About one hundred and fifty persons attended a - party given by Mr James Mcßae in the Queen's Hotel, last night, *in celebration of 'his seventieth birthday. Mr J. Pauling was M.C., and the 'music was supplied by Mr W. Sutherland. Master Donald Sutherland danced the Scotch reel and the sword dance. Songs were contributed by Mdss K. O'Leary, Master R. Mcßae, Messrs Wilson -and. Smith... Messrs.. Wilson and Snrith •alsorsang a duet,,. Mr &.
A. T?ownall proposed the health of Mr. Mcßae and Messrs antf iPiiv.Gilbert also spoke. .Mr McKae; wKor'came to New Zealand in 1863 in the ship Robert Anderson, in re-, spending, to the\toast,, gave some interesting reminiscences of the early days. He stated that he % several events at the first Caledonian sports held in Dimedin the same year as he landed. An excellent supper was' supplied by Mrs Mcßiae, and a most enjoyable'evening concluded with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
