Mr Walter Monk, who is wellI known in Masterton, and who was, | until recently, connected with Mr Hugh Ward's theatrical company, has left for Sydney to make arrangements for an Australian lecturing tour by Mr Clement Wragge. Mr Hugh Godfrey Wake, for twelve and a half years headmaster of Hokitdka District High School, was at a meeting of the East Christchurch School Committee on Monday selected for appointment by the Education Board *as headmaster of East Christj church School. j The Rev.TJain McDonald, who is at prc-ent stationed at Wfoangarei, is j on a health recruiting visit to Mas[terton. | Mr T. H; Gill, M.A..L.L.8., of the Education Department, is at 'present a visitor to Master ton. Mr E. B. Waddington, who has been on the Masterton staff of the Bank of New South' Wales for the past four years, has received notice of his transfer to the Hastings Branch. Mr Waddington wall be greatly irisr-ed. in sporting and ath-; jetic circles. M being an, ardent fat* lower of golf, tennis and .swimming,; whilst he is also- an enthusiastic alpine climber. Ho will Masterton on Monday to take up his new duties. The death occurred at Greytown on Thursday night of the wife of Mr Wharo Hutana, of Turanganui, Lower Valley. An old nnd resnected resident of this district passed a'vay at Lansdowne, yesterday,*in the person of Mr William Bennett, at the age of 88 rears, after n lingering illnes'. Deceased had always taken a keen interest in horticulture and farming, and at one time owned FerngJen estate on the East Coastvoriginally portionl of 'the old Waikaraka estate. Four sons and two daughters are left, and they will have the deepest svmpathy of a wide circle of friends. The sons are Messrs William, Henry, Donald, and Harold Bennett, and i the daughters are Mrs Criops and Miss Bennett. The late Mr Bennett's wife predeceased him. in December, 1909.
