RESULT OF BY-ELECTION. RETURN OF A LIBERAL. (Received Last Niglit, 8.40 o'clock.) SYDNEY, August 17. Mr Perry, the Liberal candidate for Liverpool Plains in the bye-elec-tion, has been elected by a majority of three over his Labour opponent. A re-count is certain. Contrary to expectations, the polling in each electorate was slightly lower than at the general election, but altogether the Liberals gained over 1100 votes. The last return was anxiously awaited. Previous to its receipt the Liberals led by 36. The electorates were known as Labour strongholds. -Twenty-five per per cent, of the electors, however, did not vote. ' The result now is that the Ministerialists will have exactly th'e same representation as the combined Liberals and Independents. It is probable that some of the Liberals will support the .Government pending a redistribution of seats and the passing of Supply.
