"JACK AND THE BEANSTALK."

AT MASTERTON TOWN HALL. J. C. Williamson., Ltd., have recovered tile reputation which was at stake over a recent presentation in Masterton. Last niglit they furnished a whirlwind of amusement in their delightful pantomime, "Jack and the Beanstalk." The. record audience which attended at the Town Hall was overwhelmed with delight at the charming effects, the dazzling ensemble, .the magnificent chorus, arid the all-round attractiveness of the' pantomime. The' humour of the piece was supplied by Jack Cannot, who, as Dame. Trot, was irresistible. Same of his jokes; were of the Noah's Ark (Variety, and some even unpalatable, but the majority were bright, crisp and catchy. Mr William. Hatsan>, as "Jessie, the cow," did 'everything that could be expected; of the lacteal bovine, even to kicking over the milk-pail. Miss herty ,was highly successful. a& Dafoe Trot's daughter, and Mr Rupert. Darrell gave a clever impersonation of Kinig Stonybrokish. Miss Dorothy Firmin, as Princess Edwidge, wtos also entertaining, whilst Missi Maibelle Morgan as "Jack," did full tico to hea- part. The ballet dancing was wel 1 iputo -the standard, the i "all nations" military ballet being a triumph in stage evolution. The dance of the dolls and the dance' of Collie were also exquisite ,pres>en.t<vtions. Of the numerous -musical numbers, the most successful were "If 1 had the World to Give," by l Misis 'Eaton ; "Looking for a Sweet- ! heart," Iby Misses Firmin and Morgan ; and the delightful aeroplane song by Miss Firman. The scenic effects were highly creditable, and | the. "Grand March of the Wines." was .specially attractive. A feature off the entertainment was. the acrol.batic performance by the, Pantzer 1 Troupe. It can be said with safety (that more astounding feats have 'never been -witnessed oni a Masterton stage. The orchestral musio was (bright, tuneful and oatchy, and the j whole pantomime .went with a swing from start to finish.
