DERBY ANNIVERSARY.
(Received August 14, 8.35 a.m.)
LONDON, August 13
A great demonstration: took place irn on the anniversary of the' Relief of Derrv.
The Duke of Abercom telegraphed that he hoped the gathering would •prove to the English that Ulster would not permit the proposed separation of Ireland from the United Kingdom.
(In tho Irish war of the 'Revolution, Londonderry closed its gates against James 11., and the townspeople shouting "No surrender!" manned the walls. The 105 days' siege ensued, from April to August, and is one of the .most celebrated events in Irish history, and its memories are amongst "the most stirring causes of party animosity. Tho town was near st'irvation when relief ships'arrived with food, and the beiegers, recognising the hopelessness of success, raised the blockade.
